Port Charlotte Shuts Out IMG Academy Blue
It has been an exciting and rewarding season for the Port Charlotte Pirates, and Wednesday night they enjoyed another big moment by posting a 9-0 shutout victory at the IMG Academy Blue Ascenders. The victory improves the Pirates to 14-5 overall on the season, and the team has won six of its last seven contests.
Port Charlotte is assured of a winning record in 2024, but certainly shows the potential to reach limits well beyond that. The Pirates have been incredibly consistent all season long, and it cannot be overlooked that they have played very tough teams all along the way. Save for a recent lopsided loss to Estero (15-2), they have been in every game all year long.
Wednesday night against the dangerous Ascenders, the Pirates took control early on and never looked back. They grabbed the lead with a run in the second inning on an RBI walk to Cayden Ruby that drove in Jasper Davis for all the offense that was ultimately necessary. They then piled on with three runs in the third, another in the fifth and a four-run seventh that sealed the win.
All that offense was more than enough for starter Kayvon Santana, who went the distance on the mound for the complete-game shutout. Santana allowed just one hit and one walk, and he struck out nine.
Every offensive starter got in on the action to reach base and contribute. Davis was 1-for-2 and walked three times, while also scoring three runs. Jaxon Capo also reached base four times by going 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI, with three walks. Kyle Herrera was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Adrian Nina went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
