Port Charlotte Holds On To Beat Manatee 6-4 On The Road

The Port Charlotte Pirates went on the road to take on the Manatee Hurricanes in Bradenton Friday night in their first road trip of the season, and it was a happy bus ride home following a 6-4 victory.

The Pirates jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second due to a couple miscues by the Hurricanes, from which they were never able to recover. After Pirates’ starter Devin Rack left the game in the sixth, the Hurricanes gained some momentum, but the Pirates were able to hold on.

Jordan Delcolle got the scoring started for the Pirates (2-0) in the bottom of the second inning. With two on and two out, Delcolle hit a line-drive to left field to send in the first run. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, a passed ball scored another. Later in the at-bat a ground-ball hit from Matt Intihar and an error on the Hurricanes infield added two more runs to the Pirates lead. Intihar scored on a Romain Reynolds line-drive single during the next at-bat to cap the scoring in the second.

After leaving the first inning in a tie game, Pirates’ starter Devin Rack re-entered the game with a five-run lead and took over from their. Rack frustrated the Hurricanes (0-2) for most of the evening, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings. He allowed just two runs on three hits in his first win of the year.

The Hurricanes were able to get a few runs back after Rack left the game in the sixth with a 6-2 lead. First, a Jamar Smith single drove in the third run of the game and then a bases-loaded walk to Andrew Shafer cut the lead to two but that was as close as the Hurricanes would get. Matt Intihar entered the game for the Pirates and got the final two outs on just two pitches to collect the save and preserve the 6-4 victory
