Sixth-Inning Rally Boosts Fort Myers Past Mariner
The Mariner Tritons hosted the Fort Myers Green Wave Thursday night in a non-district contest. After building an early lead, the Green Wave fell behind to the Tritons, only to rally in the sixth with four runs to propel them to a 7-4 victory.
Jack Mora got the scoring going for the Green Wave (6-14) with a double to left field that scored Mason Brooke and gave the Green Wave the 1-0 lead. During the next at bat, a single from Wes Wiles brought home Cameron Wademan for the second run, then a steal of home from Mora capped the scoring at three.
The Tritons (12-9) began chipping away at the Green Wave lead immediately. Andew Arsenault got the Tritons on the board with an RBI single to center field that scored Christian Velez. Velez added an RBI double in the bottom of third to pull to within one and eventually scored the tying run off a base hit from Jorge Sunti. Arsenault’s second RBI tied the game in the fourth on a single to center field. Jimmy Meredith scored the go-ahead run.
After a bunt single from Austin Keisel loaded the bases, a costly error on the Tritons allowed Milan Tucker and Jason Schumbacker to score and take a 5-4 edge into the sixth. The Green Wave added two more runs in the inning, first off the bat of Gabe Trank and then Trank came around to also score.
Avery Hall entered the game in the fourth for the Green Wave and remained the rest of the way. Hall allowed just two hits in the final two innings, finishing the day allowing five hits, one walk and two strikeouts over four innings. Hall relieved starter Dawson Degroot and picked up the victory.
