Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Friday, April 8th, 2016

Twenty-eight runs. Twenty-seven hits. First Baptist and Gateway Charter had no troubles at the plate Friday, with the Lions winning the battle of the big inning and coming away with a 16-12 win. First Baptist (4-14) erupted for 11 runs in the top of the seventh after what seemed like a sure thing when the Griffins (7-18) took a 12-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth after scoring eight runs.

Port Charlotte broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the sixth and held off a rally by Ida Baker in the bottom of the inning to win 2-1 in a 6A-11 game. The Pirates (9-12) won their second in a row. The Bulldogs, ranked fourth in Southwest Florida, fell to 16-4.
