Bishop Verot Tops Oasis To Reach 4A-5 Final
Bishop Verot scored three runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth to beat Oasis 6-1 on Wednesday in a 4A-5 semifinal. The Vikings (11-14) move on to Friday’s championship against Cardinal Mooney (21-5).
Carson Smith walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Mike Green singled up the middle, and Matt Cedarburg followed with a base hit to center to bring in Green. Alex Irwin singled before Jack Archambault blasted a single to left, allowing Irwin to come home.
The Vikings padded their lead with two more runs the next inning. Trevor Cramer singled to lead off the inning, and Blaze Alexander came up and got a base hit. After a strikeout, pinch-hitter Bryce Glasgow singled down the first-base line to allow Cramer to score.
Bishop Verot opened with a run in the bottom of the first. Gunnar Byrd reached on an error and two batters later scored on Mike Richey’s groundout.
Oasis tied it in the top of the third. Kris Balder opened with a single to left before Austin Brock walked. Two batters later, Nick Oliveira reached on a sacrifice fly, allowing Bader to score.
Cade Middleton struck out seven, allowed two hits and walked one in five strong innings for the Vikings. Charlie Houghton struck out four and allowed one hit in two innings of relief.
