Specht’s Strong Outing Leads Evangelical Christian To Win
Ben Specht struck out 13, walked one and allowed four hits as he paced Evangelical Christian to a 5-1 victory over Seacrest Country Day on Tuesday.
Specht started off ina jam as he allowed the Stingrays to load the bases with one out in the top of the first. Matt DiNorcia and Matt Hurley singled before Tyler Lopes was hit by a pitch. Specht settled down and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
The Sentinels broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. After a groundout, Matt Soletti singled, and then Sebastian Genter delivered a base hit. Soletti came home on an error on Ian Evans’ double, which scored Genter. Evans then scored on an error that allowed Clayton Cutshall to reach base.
Michael Marcelak scored on a passed ball to up Evangelical’s lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth, and the Sentinels tacked on another run in the sixth when Genter singled in Evans.
Travis Torosian’s line-drive singled plated Erick Chavez as the Stingrays mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh.
The Sentinels have won two in a row to improve to 9-3. They’ll play at Gateway Charter in another non-district matchup Thursday before the first of three district games in a row on Friday against First Baptist.
The Bulldogs dropped to 3-3-2 and have back-to-back district games looming against Sarasota Christian on Thursday and Gulf Coast HEAT on Tuesday.
