Oasis Built Early Lead, But Lose In The Seventh
Down two in the seventh, the Imagine Sharks rallied on the road to beat the Oasis Sharks 9-7 and pick up their first win of the season in a non-district game.
Oasis (6-6) jumped out to the early lead Thursday night when they put five runs on the board through the first three innings. Nick Oliveira got the scoring going in the first to give his team the one run lead. In the third, a few errors by Imagine led to the second run for Oasis as Josh Morales crossed the plate when Lewis Evans reached on an error. Oasis added three more runs in the inning to build a five run advantage.
Momentum started to shift towards Imagine (1-11), who scored their first runs in the fourth. Ryan Shamp led the inning off with a walk to get things going for Imagine. Shamp stole second and later advanced to third on a passed ball called on the Oasis pitcher. A few pitches later, another passed ball score Shamp from third. Michael Lima and Nick Lyle added runs in the inning to pull to within two.
Each team added two runs in the fifth and were held scoreless in the sixth giving Oasis the 7-5 advantage heading into the seventh inning.
Rafael Ortiz led off the top of the seventh by reaching on an error by the Oasis infield. Three batters later, Brian Smith doubled to right field to bring home Ortiz and Vince Saborse to tie the game at 7-7. Later in the inning, consecutive passed balls doomed Oasis again as they allowed Smith and Dillon Williams to score to give them a 9-7 lead.
Brian Smith came out to start his second consecutive inning on the mound and struck out the side to secure Imagine’s first win of the season.
