Naples Defeats Trinity In Hall of Fame Classic
The Naples Golden Eagles came across the alley to play Trinity Christian in the Hall of Fame Classic Tournament Wednesday afternoon. Both the Golden Eagles and the Trinity Christian Warriors fought hard until the very last out which made for an exciting game to watch and Naples came out on top 4-2.
“I knew it was going to be a great game, we’re two good programs meeting here. Trinity Christian is an outstanding program so I’m very happy to come away with a win,” said Naples Manager George Reidy. “LaCagnina pitched an outstanding game and I’m proud. We just need to keep improving starting with the starting pitchers and continue to play great defense which is something I think we’ve done throughout the season. Our hitters have done a great job when those opportunities arise with taking advantage of getting the ball in play and scoring runs.”
Both teams came out strong and each scored a run in the first inning. A rough start to the inning for sophomore Angel Tiburcio defensively was enough to give him the drive to then strikeout the next three hitters in a row. He finished with seven strikeouts for the game.
The Golden Eagles came out strong defensively as the first inning ended with a beautiful 3-6-3 double play.
“I felt really good today,” said LaCagnina. “My defense really backed me up today and my hitters came through and got us some runs and I just did what I had to do on the mound. I have a lot of confidence in my team, I just have to keep improving and locate better and come out and throw better next time.”
The team came together and capitalized on their opportunities.
“Our team chemistry is pretty good right now,” said sophomore outfielder Giovanni DiGiacomo. “We’re halfway through the season and it has gotten a lot better this season. We were a little rough at first, but we kind of put it together and the team chemistry is really working.”
For the Warriors, it was a sloppy game defensively..
“We made a lot of mental errors,” said Warriors Manager Miguel Cuello. “When you play the game, and you make the mental errors, they’re going to come back to haunt you. Those are mental mistakes that we cannot make. I know we’re a good team but sometimes guys get lost in the mix of playing the game the right way . We’ve could’ve done a little bit better on the mental side of the game.”
