Maglich, Rodman Guide Cardinal Mooney Over Calvary Christian

Having snapped a four-game losing streak in their last time out against Saint Stephen’s, Greg Mulhollen and the Cardinal Mooney Cougars were looking to get a winning streak going as they took the field on Wednesday night against Calvary Christian Clearwater in the Taylor Emmons Classic. Cougars starter Alex Rodman had the same idea on his mind and made sure that dream became a reality, throwing five innings of one-hit ball in a 2-0 win over the Warriors.

While Rodman only struck out two on the night, the junior was extremely efficient and threw just over eleven pitches an inning, finishing at 57 total pitches thrown before turning the ball over to Josh Bonynge in the sixth inning. Bonynge struck out the first two men he faced and allowed just a lone hit, before finishing things off for the save.

Rodman was given a boost on offense by senior designated hitter Christian Maglich, who sent a ball over the left field fence to lead off the sixth inning and raise the score to 2-0. The Cougars’ first run had come in the top of the first, when Bonynge scored on a wild pitch with two outs after reaching earlier in the inning with a walk. T. Hebda, Tyler Garris and Paul Labriola each had singles of their own, with Alex Hubbard and Tyler Mattes both adding walks.

Starting for the Warriors and pitching extremely well was Graham Hoffman, who struck out six, walked one, and allowed just one hit in the loss. Hoffman also had one of his team’s two hits on offense, with Jack Bodner supplying the other.
