North Fort Myers Comes Back Island Coast
North Fort Myers rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to get past Island Coast 6-5 in a 6A-11 matchup Tuesday.
With Island Coast ahead 5-3, North Fort Myers took the lead for good in the sixth. Sam Mieses and Payton Bourque walked to lead off the inning. Joe Logsdon doubled to left field to score Mieses. After two consecutive strikeouts, John Humbert singled down the third-base line to bring in Bourque to tie it at 5. An error allowed Logsdon to score the go-ahead run.
Island Coast (2-4) got off to a 1-0 lead in the first as Alex Perez scored on Felix Camacho’s flyout.
North Fort Myers came back for a pair of runs in the top of the second. Bourque scored on a wild pitch, and Logsdon came home on a fielder’s choice.
The Gators retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Chase Chatman reached on an error that allowed Hank Owens to score. With the bases loaded, Matt Steele, who got on with a walk, came home when Perez reached on a base-on-balls.
Mieses homered to right field to tie the game at 3 in the top of the third, but Island Coast got the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Miguel Vidal singled to lead off the inning. After Owens flied out, Alex Nazario reached on a fielder’s choice. Vidal went to third on an error and came home on Matt Harvel’s groundout.
Camacho’s sacrifice fly scored Steele to make it 5-3 in favor of Island Coast in the bottom of the fourth.
Logsdon shut down Island Coast, holding it hitless over two innings, allowing no earned runs, walking none and striking out two.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Red Knights (3-4), who host Lely on Friday.
