Mariner Evens Record With Win Over Dunbar
The Mariner Tritons redeemed themselves on Wednesday from a season-opening loss to Gulf Coast by defeating Dunbar 15-0.
A six run first inning that saw the Tritons send ten batters to the plate set the tone in this one. The first seven batters all reached base. Mason Eicher got the game started with a single and stole second immediately. James Bartolotta walked, and Christian Velez drove in the first two runs of the game with a double to left. Nick Lamoureux followed with an RBI single, making the score 3-0. Three consecutive walks, and a couple passed balls later, and the Tritons had a 6-0 lead.
That was all that starting pitcher Daniel Varner would need. Varner threw four shutout innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out eight. Dylan Reid threw the last inning for Mariner, and needed only 12 pitches to get through the frame.
Offensively, the Tritons poured it on, scoring three more runs in the second, and then five in the third.
Velez led the offense, going 4-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Bartolotta also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3, with a walk and four runs. Lamoureux had two runs scored and an RBI on the day.
Mariner is off until Monday, when they will play host to Charlotte.
