Machado Gem Leads Charlotte To Win Over Manatee
After starting the season 0-2, the Charlotte Fighting Tarpons have had to dig out of a hole over the past week. They continued to do just that on Wednesday evening when they rode the arm of Kyle Machado to a 3-0 win over Manatee.
Machado dazzled for much of this evening, scattering only two hits, while striking out eight. It was just the type performance the Tarpons needed after their rocky start.
Eric Crawford and Andrew Schafer did their part to keep the Hurricanes close. Crawford allowed only four hits, and did not give up a run until the fifth inning. Schafer gave up one run in his 1.1 innings of work.
For Charlotte, the bats finally figured out Crawford in the fifth. The inning started innocently enough, with a groundout to Crawford.
Ethan Vaughn then singled. Scott Lemaster followed with a single, as did Jim Garand, and Logan Tracy. By the end of the inning, the Tarpons had three runs, which was all Machad0 needed.
Vaughn was the offensive star for the Tarmpjns, going 2-for-3, with a run.
Charlotte lost their first two games of the year by a combined 17-7 score. They had since won two one-run games before Wednesday’s win.
Manatee continued their uneven play of alternating wins and losses in their first four games. The Hurricanes will try to get back above .500 when they host Freedom Friday night.
