Early Runs Fuel Cape Coral’s 5-1 Victory
Cape Coral wasted no time taking a lead Monday, scoring three in the first inning en route to a 5-1 win over South Fort Myers in a non-district clash.
After Spencer Roach opened the first by flying out, Daniel Fanego singled before Matt McDade reached on an error. Hunter Bontrager then singled to load the bases. PJ Carse took an 0-1 pitch to left field, scoring Fanego, McDade and Bontrager for a 3-0 lead.
McDade’s base hit brought in Roach in the top of the second to extend the lead. Andrew Jaffarian brought home Brandon Dye for a 5-0 lead in the top of the third.
South Fort Myers (1-5) showed some life in the bottom of the third. Patrick Doyle, Jacob Balling and Justin Hughes walked to load the bases for Ryan Schatzman, who also walked to score Doyle.
The Seahawks are on an eight-game winning streak after losing their first game of the season. They have three consecutive district series coming up with Ida Baker, Mariner and Port Charlotte.
The Wolfpack has a week to regroup and get ready for a March 1st district clash at Lehigh.
Roach finished 2-for-5 with a run to lead the Seahawks offense. Matt Slater threw three innings, giving up no hits, to earn the win.
Kenny D’Vincente had the lone hit for South Fort Myers.
