Cape Coral Offense Leads To Big Win Over East Lee
The Cape Coral Seahawks showed incredible plate discipline early in the game and the offense kept flowing, allowing the Seahawks to win 12-2 against East Lee County on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks drew three walks in the first inning to put the pressure on right away. Seahawks leadoff hitter Spencer Roach got the game started with a four-pitch walk. He next stole second base to put himself in scoring position, and then took advantage of a wild pitch and advanced to third base.
Roach was able to score on a sac-fly hit by Matt McDade to tally the first run of the game.
“The hitters behind me were able to get the job done,” Roach said.
East Lee County threatened to score in the first inning after getting runners on first and third. But some clutch defense was able to get the Seahawks out of the jam.
Cape Coral starting pitcher Tre Waltz had a spectacular seconded inning. Where he was able to strike out all three batters he faced in only ten pitches.
“I really focused on finishing my delivery,” Waltz said.
The Jaguars were able to capitalize on several mistakes committed by the Seahawks defense in the second inning. With runners on first and third and no outs, Steven Otero laid down a bunt that allowed baserunner Gavon Boudon to cross the plate and score the first run for Lee County. Later that inning with a runner on third and one out a ground ball hit by Jose Negron would allow the Jaguars to score there second run of the inning.
“We need to produce more hits,” said Jaguars manager Jerriel Filler. “We need time to improve.”
The Seahawks had an explosive third inning were they scored four runs, giving them a total of seven. In the fourth a ground ball and two strikeouts retired the Jaguars and allowed for the Seahawks to come to the plate and score twice. The fifth inning was another quick one for the Jaguar offense as they could not find any rhythm. The Seahawks scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning bringing the scoring to a final.
“We kept grinding,” said Seahawks manager Mike Gorton. “Although it wasn’t our best game tonight. We need to be more competitive.”
The Seahawks looked very good at the plate throughout the night. They had a total of 13 hits and three walks. Offensive standout Julian Vazquez reached base in all four of his at bats with four hard hit balls.
“I felt very comfortable at the plate throughout the night.” Vazquez said.
