Callahan, Ojeda Lead Lake Placid To 4-1 Win
Over the course of an entire season, there’s always going to be a game or two where everything goes right and you come away with a win at the end of the night. For Angel Ojeda and the rest of his Lake Placid team, that may be the best way to describe Thursday’s 4-2 victory over Mulberry.
Ojeda threw a complete game four-hitter and struck out five Panthers along the way, and he also drove in one of his team’s four runs with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning. Nearly sixty percent of Ojeda’s 91 pitches on Thursday night went for strikes, as the senior right-hander was in complete control all night long.
The Green Dragons started things off with a three-run first inning that saw second baseman Sammy Callahan drive in two runs with an RBI double following back-to-back walks to left fielder Tay Williams and shortstop Bailey Bevis. Ojeda then drove in the third run of that inning with a one-out sacrifice fly to bring Callahan back around. Lake Placid added on their fourth and final run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tay Williams singled to center field and brought Diego Mirales home.
Though the Green Dragons only scored four runs in their win, the patience they displayed at the plate (only striking out two times and drawing three walks) was instrumental for Tim Ferguson’s squad as they moved to 2-2 on the season. This was their second consecutive win, as Lake Placid won 15-5 against DeSoto County its last time out.
Mulberry’s only run came by way of a Taz Williams RBI single in the top of the third inning that drove home right fielder Jerome Stevenson, who’d reached base with a leadoff triple. Senior right-hander Tito Valdivia pitched six innings in relief for the Panthers and kept his team in the game after the three-run first inning.
