Bishop Verot Walks Off Gulf Coast In 10 Innings
After nine scoreless innings of play the bats finally came out late, as Gulf Coast got on the scoreboard only to watch Bishop Verot answer back to walk off with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night. Mike Richey hit a three-run home run to left field to bring his club all the way back to victory.
Bishop Verot (3-2) got things started as Mike Lemmerman walked and Trevor Cramer reached on error. Blaze Alexander gave himself up with a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners into scoring position for Richey, who instead put a good enough charge in a 1-2 offering to send it out of the ballpark.
The Sharks (3-3) ended the scoreless deadlock when Tanner Ison doubled to center and Blake Roxbery was hit by a pitch and both then scored on an error. The Sharks had 10 hits overall, but were unable to cross the plate earlier in the action.
Niels Stone delivered a strong start for Gulf Coast, allowing one hit while pitching into the seventh inning. Stone walked four and struck out seven before coming out with two outs in the seventh, as lefty Luke Dawson went the rest of the way.
Devyn White drew the start for Bishop Verot, scattering four hits and a walk with one strikeout over two-and-a-third frames. Cade Middleton then did the heavy lifting to strike out six and preserve the lead, before turning things over to eventual winner Mike Lemmerman.
