Top Ranked Venice Falls to Mosley
The 11-3 Venice Indians had their nine-game win streak snapped by a tough road loss to Mosley Dolphins on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, the Indians, the top ranked team in Southwest Florida, still sport a perfect 5-0 mark in 7A-11 and have a healthy lead for the top spot in the district.
Dolphins starter Nicky Agosto was just too much for Venice to solve in this one. Agosto tossed the complete game and shutout the Indians on three hits and four strike outs.
Two of those three hits came from Venice’s Brent Killam, the other from Tyler Gardner. Killam singled to center field in the fifth and doubled to left in the seventh. Gardner lined a basehit into center in the sixth.
The Dolphins scored a run in both the second and third innings. Brad Jones came on in relief for the Indians with one out in the third and shut Mosley down the rest of the way, allowing just one hit, but the bats never mustered the run support he needed to earn the win.
